Restoring an older home takes a different approach than painting a newer one.
Old plaster behaves differently than modern drywall. Layers of old paint can become brittle and fail. Original windows may need repair rather than replacement. Wood siding and trim can have decades of paint, repairs, and weathering behind them.

- Plaster Repair: Cracked, loose, or sagging plaster can be a common issue in older homes. Rather than simply filling a crack and hoping it stays gone, we look at what’s causing the problem and repair the surface appropriately.
- When needed, plaster buttons can be used to help secure loose plaster before cracks are properly repaired.
- Older Paint & Surface Preparation: Decades of paint can create their own set of problems. Older coatings may become brittle, peel, crack, or separate from the layers beneath them.
- We use careful, appropriate preparation methods to address failing paint while taking the age and condition of the underlying surfaces into account.
- For homes with older coatings that may contain lead, appropriate lead-safe work practices are an important part of the process.
- Original Window Repair
- We love original windows: They are part of what gives an older home its character, and replacing them isn’t always necessary. Depending on the condition, we can help with repairs such as broken glass, deteriorated glazing putty, and missing or frayed sash cords. When appropriate, we can also help source materials that complement the original character of the window.
- Historic Woodwork & Details: Handrails, newel posts, trim, doors, shiplap, clapboards, scalloped shingles, and other original details deserve careful attention. Sometimes restoration means repairing something. Sometimes it simply means carefully cleaning and preserving what’s already there.
